INGLEWOOD ART HUB

Overview:

Inglewood ARTHUB is an interactive digital map built to celebrate and promote the artistic and cultural richness of Inglewood, Calgary’s oldest and most dynamic neighborhood. As the UX and Product Designer, I led the design of a user-centered platform that transforms community-sourced data into an engaging digital experience.

The map allows users to easily explore local galleries, artist studios, and public art installations through an intuitive, responsive interface. With a focus on visual clarity and seamless navigation, the design supports both desktop and mobile users in discovering Inglewood's vibrant creative scene.

This project demonstrates my ability to translate complex information into accessible tools that empower users and amplify community voices—merging thoughtful UX principles with strategic product design to create lasting impact

WHAT MAKES OUR AREA UNIQUE?

The Inglewood region is famous in Alberta, Canada, for its natural beauty, historic buildings, streets and arts community. Founded in 1875, it's the oldest neighbourhood in Calgary, so it also includes several historical attractions, including Fort Calgary Historical Park, Calgary Zoo, and Deane House. In addition, it has over 100 shops, boutiques, breweries, restaurants, art galleries, bookstores, record stores, live performances and festivals, and many other cultural and artistic avenues. At the junction of the Bow and Elbow rivers, people can enjoy leisure sports, free concerts and food trucks in a large park.As such, Inglewood is a unique area where people can experience nature, history, food, culture and art all in one space.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The main target for our map project is artists already active in Calgary, art lovers who want to appreciate and enjoy the diverse arts, and tourists who want to explore art and cultural attractions. They may also be interested in experiencing various cultures and arts, combining them to create new art, and may want to network and collaborate with people with the same interests. We can provide information about Inglewood's major art galleries or unique shops or take sensuous photos or videos of cultural and art events and works of art and view them on a map. In addition, artists can directly promote their exhibitions or perfor mances on the map, or it can be a map where users can participate in content creation by adding reviews from visitors. Therefore, if we attract target audiences to the Inglewood Art Map Project, encourage them to experience cultural arts, introduce new events and artists, and deliver news to the map together, many people will be interested and use this project map. Further more, if it is a map that the users, as mentioned above, can directly participate in, more people will actively use and want this project map.

Content Creation:

To bring the Inglewood ARTHUB to life, I curated and prepared engaging content including photos, videos, and written descriptions for each of the neighborhood’s key artistic landmarks. This included iconic spots such as Recordland, one of Canada’s largest and most beloved vinyl stores, and the Esker Foundation, a contemporary art gallery known for its thought-provoking exhibitions. Each location was documented with high-quality visuals and concise, informative text to highlight its unique cultural significance. The goal was to create a visually rich and informative experience that not only guides users but also inspires them to explore Inglewood’s vibrant creative community

User Needs & Engagement:

Our map responds to the needs of these audiences by offering:

  • A visually engaging, interactive map to explore Inglewood’s artistic and cultural highlights

  • Detailed profiles of galleries, shops, public art, and artist-run spaces

  • Community-generated content, including event submissions, artist features, and visitor reviews

  • Multimedia-rich experiences, with photos, videos, and stories tied to each location

  • A platform for collaboration and networking among creatives and supporters of the arts

By empowering users to contribute content, promote their work, and share feedback, the ARTHUB becomes more than just a guide—it becomes a living, evolving digital space driven by its community. This participatory approach ensures high engagement, repeat visits, and sustained interest from those who value culture, creativity, and connection.

Creative Concept:

We will use the Inglewood Art Maps Project to create a website to update and share visually appealing content. We can draw attention to a target audience interested in art using professional photos, videos, and illustrations for maps. It will be differentiated as a participatory map through our team's carefully selected content that can be delivered with art information news rather than a simple search-type map that users can directly share. In addition, if artists, art associations, or media companies cooperate, we can retain more users. With this strategy, we anticipate that we will be able to create a platform-type map that differentiates it from general maps by attractively connecting Inglewood's maps and cultural and artistic informa- tion to the target audience.

Deliverables:

Our team will be developing a web-based interactive map. It displays specially selected cultural and artistic places on an illustrated map of Inglewood, and when users select, various and engaging visual information will be delivered. We plan to allow many people to participate by directly posting comments or reviews. It will enable users to access Inglewood places, events and news from their computers, tablets and smart- phones. In the future, more delivery methods, such as mobile applications and posters, may be added to maximize the impact of map projects.
